I created a google sites website to showcase the hard work and college acceptances of my classmates. We had a board in school similar to this. Since we have been in quarantine, many students did not get the opportunity to be up on that board.
I was talking to my classmates, and many expressed their concerns about what they were missing during this quarantine. One of them mentioned that her name has never been on the acceptance board as she got her college acceptance during self-isolation. I thought this could be solved, lift their spirits, and get them excited for the future and what's to come.
I began talking with the school counselor about my idea and brainstorming what I wanted the website to look like. Then I asked my classmates to send me head shots of them, preferably with a white background. I had to edit the backdrop of the pictures to make them all extremely white. Then I added the university logos in the back. After uploading the images to the google sites, I asked Mr. Johnson to add an encouraging message to the site.
In a meeting we had for my digital design class, one of my classmates told me she really appreciated what I was doing, and she told me how she knew many others were excited as well. My other classmate, who is siblings with a girl in my class, said to me that she was also looking forward to the published website. Mr. Johnson also expressed his appreciation. This was my goal form the beginning creating something that would be meaningful and appreciated by many.
This submission included a slideshow which did not meet our requirements for personal identity protection
Based on the positive comments I received from my classmates, teachers and parents. I am happy with my results like I mentioned the whole point of this was to appreciate the hard work my classmates have put over the years.
I am have not finished the website. I need to add a banner I was planning on making a gif for the homepage banner. I want to keep doing projects that are meaningful and helpful for my classmates during these tough times. In my digital design class, they suggested I make a video compilation of all our moments as the class of 2020.
In my digital design class, T. presented a google site she did for the school's art exhibit. Her google sites and her intentions inspired me. Mr. Chin and Mr.Johnson were also very helpful with feedback. I got to present my progress in class twice, so my classmates also contributed with exciting ideas for improvement.
This is a fantastic idea to provide graduating seniors the recognition that they deserve. It has a eye-capturing layout that doesn't only give you students' names, but also a picture to get a better sense of identity and connection with each of the students. Congratulations seniors!
