"How are sharks and ocean' ecosystems affected by human interference?" is the central question that inspired our presentation. We created a google slide that contains essential information about our topic, pictures, charts, and some interactive activities for the viewers to experience. Our main theme was about how sharks are important to ocean ecosystems and how human impact is affecting our oceans by killing sharks. One of the purposes for which we created this presentation is to generate a healthy conscience to our viewers about how important it is to take responsibility for our actions (such as throwing one-use plastics). Not only that, but we also want to inspire our viewers and students to start appreciating our Earth and to take care of it accordingly with our presentation.
In the beginning, we created this project for a biology assignment. Later, we decided to spread these ideas to other people because we thought it was an important topic. We believe that the importance of sharks and the ecosystems overall is a crucial feature in our world. Since oceans make up more than seventy percent of the world, we thought it was very critical to highlight this issue of shark over-fishing and ocean pollution. Our passion for this topic leads us to desire the spreading of conscience about this topic because not only are we killing the world in every possible way, but we are also decimating the human race over the long run...
We created our project using google slides and most of the information from Oceana.org. Our idea was to create as many ways in which we can show our information while making our viewers enjoy the presentation. We thought it was crucial to maintain a precise balance in our project as well as containing variety. Thanks to SlidesGo.com, we were able to obtain the perfect template for our presentation. Then, we used that platform to add our information and created the ideal presentation, both informational and visually pleasing.
Throughout our investigation process, we found various shocking information about sharks. The extent of shark over-fishing was tremendous, totally over our imaginations. We found out that over one hundred million sharks are being killed each year just for people to eat their fins in a soup. It was overwhelming the disgust and injustice that we felt when we heard of this news. Sharks are notorious for being murderous and scary; for example, in movies, you can only see when sharks are attacking humans. But the reality is that humans are hunting sharks way more than when sharks attack humans. We thought this was important and wanted to share this information to make people realize how we are destroying an entire ecosystem that has been thriving for millions of years, way before humans appeared.
Our results created a drastic change in the decision making of our presentation. The information we gathered centered on ideas that prove that humans are destroying ecosystems, not only in land but also in the ocean. Not only was the information shocking, but we also used it to communicate to the audience how we, as humans, should become more responsible for our actions. Our goal is not to make every person go to the ocean and clean up trash, but to spread the conscience to our viewers and make them more responsible for their actions when they throw trash on the floor, for example. (We know students from our school don't care about those things, so we thought that they need to realize what all of our actions are causing before it's too late for our decaying Earth...some say that it already is...) From our results, we learned amazing information. Not only is every creature correlated to each other, but their disappearance can also create, not a change, but a chain reaction.
For our project, we could've added the chain reaction of over-fishing sharks, but we didn't because we spent more time investigating the human effects and how they are making these changes. We could also have added more information about humans interacting with the animals and aquariums, but decided not to because it would not relate to our question/theme. Maybe next time, we can investigate more about how humans and ecosystems/animals are interacting with each other in different places on Earth.
We thought of creating a presentation that shows how sharks and ecosystems are affected by humans, in other words, we thought of the idea for our presentation. We got most of our information from Oceana.org which is the largest international advocacy organization that focuses on ocean conservation. They seek for our oceans to become more biodiverse and abundant by winning policy victories in the countries that govern the world's marine life. We also used a quote from Peter Benchley, a Youtube video from Joe Hanson, pictures/charts from Oceana, and the slide template from SlidesGo.
The idea behind this project has great intentions in that its purpose is to have people understand the dangers that face marine ecosystems, specifically with sharks. It would be wonderful to see more data that would show specific examples of how it my impact peoples lives to draw more attention to the issue. Although, the presentation has a level of attractiveness in its easy-to-understand images, statistics, engaging videos and questionnaires.
