So I wanted to put together two of my favorite photos in two different locations: Paraguay and the Grand Canyon. I wanted to make it look professional and smooth. I wanted them to match as well and make it look real. I used gimp and I’m proud of my results.
I decided to do this project in order to connect these two countries and because I wanted to connect my photography and put it together in a professional fashion.
So I basically put the photos together with Gimp. And I also played around with the shadows, until ultimately, it only made sense to remove the shadows from the bird as it was around midday in the picture.
So I found out that you can totally make something match and look very real with computer software, and though it is difficult, the outcome does not seem like it. I am very proud of what it looks like! I believe it looks professional!
So I learned that making these designs is not easy at all. I also learned how to use shadow and thus make images look more realistic. I also learned that colors are important when it comes to matching as well.
The next steps would maybe be doing this to more of my photographs, and creating maybe a portfolio of my work. I believe that I could create maybe a bird portfolio as well.
I mostly got my information from tutorials on youtube, and the idea was an inspiration from my photography and nature. I also always liked the idea of how every country/place has its own native species, and so I tried to put these two together! Mr. Chin also helped me a lot!
The piece has a hypnotic and rhythmical quality to the falcon and the Grand Canyon. You captured the aesthetic quality of the image composition in addition to the technical aspect of matching the shadows of the two disparate pictures. I would love to see some experimentation with different color palates or contrast in the canyon, and as you said, more of these types of pictures - as with the Burmese python establishing a permanent residency in Florida, or other invasive species that establish homes in other parts of the world - there could be avenues to explore hypothetical situations such as these in a biology class.
