Uryside P7 Ski Trip to Abernethy at Nethybridge

About the Centre

Located in beautiful Strathspey and part of the Cairngorms National Park in Highland Scotland, Abernethy Nethybridge is just a 40-minute drive from Inverness. The Centre is surrounded by ancient Caledonian pine forest which is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, red squirrels, crested tits and ospreys. You may even glimpse sight of the much rarer pine martens or capercaillie. Loch Garten and Loch Morlich are close by, offering  cycling and walking trails, water sports and stunning natural beaches.

From our beginnings in 1971 Abernethy has existed to provide outdoor learning and activities for children, young people, families and groups of individuals, all within the shared values of a Christian community.
We warmly welcome everyone to our centres, no matter their beliefs and hope our hospitality demonstrates our love and care for all. Our faith fuels a belief that each and every person is valued and unique.
We believe that time spent in the natural world can have a positive impact on our emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Itinerary

Monday 24 February

Children will be taken to school at 9:10am where they will come to the meeting room door beside the main reception.  Please hand in any medication and medical forms at this time - medication should be clearly labelled with the child's name and prescription label.  Children will be able to come into school with their bags to wait for everyone to arrive after checking in.  Due to numbers we cannot facilitate parents as well, however you are welcome to remain outside to wave them off.  We will aim to leave at 9:30am.  All children will be travelling on the same bus (Kineil Coaches) and Mrs McGunnigle will follow in a car to ensure there is transport there in case of emergencies.  Children can take their own ski equipment which can be taken by Mrs McGunnigle, however this will be the responsibility of pupils to look after; the school can accept no responsibility for this.  We will stop at Dufftown on the way to give everyone a breather from the twisty roads and to have a snack before arriving at the centre at 11:30am approx.

Upon arrival the children will be given their rooms and told who they are sharing with before  having their lunch.  Please ensure your child has a packed lunch for the day.

In the afternoon the children will get kitted out with their skis before taking to the dry slope at the Abernethy site, swimming pool and then tea and  evening entertainment before bed.

For day 2-4 the initial plan will be to go to the Cairngorms on the Tuesday for skiing and then the Lecht on Wednesday and Thursday.  This is all snow dependant.  As the Cairngorms funicular is currently out of action this may prove harder on the Tuesday and so a back up plan has been created below for the worst case scenario.

Friday 28 February

After breakfast and packing the children will leave the centre at 10am and should arrive back at Uryside at 12:30pm.  An exact time will be confirmed via groupcall when we are on route so that children can be collected promptly and to reduce the time spent waiting for the bus to arrive.
