Transitions
School transitions are the moves children make into, between and on from. This begins from home to Nursery, for many children and parents the first experience away from parents at home can produce many worries and concerns until children settle. The importance of continuity, repetition, and positivity helps your children to settle quickly and confidently in their new setting, soon learning that parents return, and the move is not forever. During Nursery children experience lots of small transitions, new staff, routines, going to the gym hall etc.. Staff plan these transitions carefully and support the children in the preparation and the following of these until each child is comfortable. Moving onto school is the next transition, again this is addressed sensitively by offering the children lots of different opportunities to build confidence and familiarity before the move happens. Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you feel you would like more information about transitions or want to share any important things, however small to support your child while they adjust to their new setting.

Colour Monster
One of the stories we frequently read in nursery is the colour monster. The story helps children to understand different emotions that they may experience and as a result can help them to process and manage their own emotions.
When the children come to nursery we have an emotional regulation sign in where the children can take their name and sign in to nursery by putting their name next to the colour monster which relates most to how they feel that day. This usually results in a discussion with the child as to why they feel the way they do that specific day.
