Learning for Life

Welcome to Slains School

At Slains School we believe that great education is something to which everyone is entitled. It forms one of the foundations for building a thriving and vibrant society. Our school is one of 10 Primaries which transition to Ellon Academy for their secondary education.

We serve the coastal village of Collieston and the surrounding agricultural area of Slains. Slains is probably most famous for its association with two castles, Old Slains and New Slains, both of which are perched on the coast a few miles north of the school.

We are located in beautiful countryside north of Aberdeen in close proximity to the Forvie Nature Reserve and the estuary of the River Ythan. Our school is blessed with amazing grounds which include a wildlife garden, outdoor play equipment, a football pitch and a wonderful array of plant life in and out of out polytunnel. The children grow a variety of vegetables which can be used later in their cooking lessons.

Our pupils and families are actively encouraged to participate in the life of our school and support the staff to deliver high quality learning and teaching both inside and outside the classroom. This collaboration has helped us earn two Green Flags, numerous Formartine Beginning to Blossom awards and be regular winners of the Middleton Fun Run School Award.

All our pupils benefit from opportunities to engage in a wide range of learning experiences in and out of school and our engagement with other local Primary schools in the Ellon Cluster through residential trips help our pupils develop the skills they need for moving onto Ellon Academy when the time comes.

Community links are a valued part of school life with the school being used for a range of community activities, including after school clubs. Our Parent Forum provide invaluable support both through raising funds and sharing their views on school improvement activities and enhancing the learning experiences for all our pupils.

We hope you find this website helpful in telling you more about us and if you would like to find out anything else, please do not hesitate to contact us.
