Reading Schools - Bronze

Your school needs you!  We are embarking on a new venture to attain a Reading Schools award.  There are three levels - bronze, silver and gold.  In January we're looking for reading ambassadors to help develop a whole school reading culture and earn our first award.  Speak to Dr. Millar or Mrs Mackintosh for more info.

Why should we read?

Benefits to reading for pleasure include:

• Helps with reading attainment and writing ability

 • Grows our breadth of vocabulary

• Encourages positive reading attitudes

•  Improves our general knowledge

• Gives us a better understanding of other cultures

How many seconds are there in a year?   Hint: 365.25 days to account for leap years

60 seconds in an hour -  60 x 60 = 3,600 seconds in an hour

24 hours in a day - 24 x 3,600 = 86,400 seconds in a day

365.25 days in a year - 365.25 x 86,400 = 31,557,600 seconds in a year.
