BGE Curriculum: Reporting Window 1
The below gives a brief overview of the BGE curriculum.
More detailed information on reporting within each subject area can be found by clicking on the links provided.
In S1, pupils follow a broad general education covering all curricular areas.
Each week, pupils study 5 periods of English, 4 periods of Maths, 3 periods of Science, Social Subjects and Modern Languages, 2 periods of Digital Literacy and Core PE and 1 period each of Art, Music, Computing, Technical, HE, Health & Wellbeing, PSE and RME.
In S2, pupils build on their learning from S1 and continue to follow a broad general education covering all curricular areas.
Each week, pupils study 4 periods of English, Maths, Science and Social Subjects, 3 periods of Modern Languages, 2 periods of PE and 1 period each of Technical, Art, Music, Business, Computing, HE, RME, PSE and Sustainability.
In S3 pupils are provided with a balanced educational experience, one which covers all curricular areas, while also allowing an element of personalisation and choice.
As a school, we recognise that by this stage pupils have a better idea of where their talents and interests lie and for some, where they want to go in the future.
By allowing an element of choice pupils are given a learning experience that is relevant to them, provides more challenge and enjoyment, can study subjects in more depth and start to prepare themselves for the senior phase and beyond.
Each week, all pupils study 4 periods of English and Maths, 3 periods of Modern Languages, 2 periods of PE and 1 period each of Health & Wellbeing (which includes Core RME) and PSE. Pupils also study 5 subject choices, each of which they study for 3 periods per week.
