This symposium aims to bring together researchers working on the reconstruction, modeling and data analysis of the climate change in the past millennium in East Asia. East Asian climate change has strong monsoonal influence which makes its physical system complicated and our understanding of such a system is limited. In this symposium, we shall summarize the present state of the scientific research on the reconstruction of relevant climate data including those derived from documentary and environmental sources. We shall also discuss the modeling of the East Asian climate in the past millennium using AGCM and coupled models and examine the pros and cons of various parameterizations in the models. We shall also look at the results of climate data analysis in East Asia and try to understand the climate processes based on fundamental atmospheric physics and climate model simulation results. By fostering dialogue among experts in reconstruction methodology, paleoclimate modeling, data analysis and assimilation techniques, the symposium seeks to identify key challenges, share recent advances, and promote collaborative efforts to improve our understanding on the climate change in East Asia. A particular focus will be placed on integrating high-resolution proxy data with model simulations to enhance our understanding of the drivers and their impacts on past climate variability. We will also examine the implication of the new findings for future climate projections.
Three main themes in the symposium are:
· Theme 1: Climate reconstruction for East Asia for the past millennium based on historical documentary and environmental sources
· Theme 2: Numerical modeling for the East Asian climate in the last millennium
· Theme 3: Analysis of climate trends in the last millennium in East Asia based on reconstruction data and model results
本次研討會旨為東亞近千年氣候變遷相關氣候重建、模擬與資料分析的相關研究人員提供交流平台。東亞氣候變遷深受季風影響,然而我們對其複雜的物理系統瞭解有限。本次會議將對於應用歷史文獻與環境資料所重建氣候資料之科學研究現況做總結。我們同時也涵蓋運用大氣環流模式(AGCM)和耦合模式對近千年東亞氣候的模擬,並分析不同模式參數化的優缺點。我們將分析東亞氣候資料,並嘗試根據基礎大氣物理學和氣候模型模擬結果來理解不同之氣候過程。透過促進氣候重建、古氣候模擬、資料分析和同化技術等不同領域之專家交流,我們期望能梳理出氣候變遷研究之關鍵挑戰議題。在分享最新進展和促進合作的同時,更增進我們對東亞氣候變遷的瞭解。我們特別聚焦在結合高解析度代用資料與模型模擬以增強我們對氣候變遷驅動因素及其過去影響之理解,進一步探討新發現對未來氣候預測的意義。
