Now that we have a good understanding of how our brain systems work together to help us perceive the world around us, we're going to create a piece of art that reflects multiple connection points to us individually and to others viewing our artwork.
The artwork can be in a variety of mediums. You can choose:
1. Sculpture using found materials and objects (ie: paper cups, tape, paper clips, etc)
2. Animation using a recording device and green screen (view this tutorial for more details)
3. Paper and pencil/colored pencil drawings.
The intent is to create something that both communicates how the brain systems work to evoke a response from someone who is viewing the art. You do not need to have the "best" piece of artwork - it just needs to provoke us to think critically and respond.
Please follow these instructions for creating your artwork:
Select one of the words on your sensory list and examine the image associations others had for that word.
Think about and select a medium that would best communicate how that word is perceived and the process that the brain systems use to make that word association.
Create your piece of artwork using the medium you selected. You may want to brainstorm and sketch out your thinking first before moving into creating your work.
Be prepared to present the work to the class, who will use their analysis skills to investigate and respond to your work.
