What does it mean for you to practice? What changes when you imagine a professional practice?
As as individual, I believe that we're all artist at a soul and spiritual level. As artists of diverse backgrounds and practice, there are certain regimented routine that is practiced in order to acquire a particular skill of desired field/fields. In continuation, practicing as an artist engages one in a regular and intentional exploration of creative expression, mainly through the employment of various media such as visual arts, music through written songs, singing, humming, & harmonizing , writing, movements through dance, or performance through theatre. But this is more than just doing it once in a while practice/routine; as it becomes part of one’s life and identity.
When considering what separates a professional practice, I expect or imagine a space created that offers ones inner child to be free to dream big enough with everything within them; to imagine the impossible whilst making it happen by the nurturing, care, understanding of the adult self that is monitoring/guiding the child within. This adult takes ownership of the connection, and relationship to the inner-child whilst allowing emergence/growth/upgrades to naturally occur.
As an artist we don't rush to things when it comes to creation and birthing of a project or an art piece. Each art piece created has a story hidden within that may not be perceived and sometimes can be perceived by others depending on the complexity of the work. As artist, we learn by trusting the process, letting creation emerge & evolve. There may be many changes made along the way, but that's part of the process and the journey taken to create. This allows us to become an active participant whilst allowing creation to emerge organically. Because it emerge organically, this attunes one to honesty where the artist, the adult present and the inner-child can be really honest in that space of creativity with one another as a form of relationship.
In closing, practicing as an artist professionally involves higher levels of commitment, discipline, Focus on development whether it's through learning new skills/attending workshops/ to collaborations and mentorship for refreshing perspectives and ideas. We learn from each other in being in community whilst fostering long-lasting friendships/connections/relations; though some can be in ones life for a season, a day, a month, or a decade.

࿔ part of the studio experimental phase ࿔
To know the "I". To recognize the "I". The `ayin to which belongs to whom is the "I". The "Eye" of the "I" is `ayin.
Some mushrooms "experimental phase". Have yet to learn how to extract pigment from the fungi. Caution was taken when approaching the fungi. No physical touch was present.
There has been brief moments when settling into my studio and creating a rhythm has been challenging. So often, I found myself starring at the vacant white walls. Sometimes I would gaze at the canvas curtain, and once in a while there would be people passing by to which their walks and rhythms had now been memorized. My next door's neighbor footsteps are subtle, consistence yet gentle as if they are floatingly gliding above the clouds with ever so gentle puffs here and there resembling the breath of a baby. The walk is steady, comforting, and peaceful.
When the halls in the studio has no occupancy, I find myself outside the park but most often by the water. Perhaps finding rhythm for my studio seems challenging due to the unlocking of a memory. The smell of paint saturate these walls and halls. At times it feels like I am wearing paint and breathing it in every breath intaking. The blank white walls unlocked a memory when my family first came to America. Our first home smelled like fresh paint and was pristinely white and clean. The aroma/smell of paint saturated the atmosphere lingered for months. This felt so new. It was new. It was the first time where there was recognition that "we were here to stay and this was a home that had a room. A home with a room".
_⩇⩇:⩇⩇_The graduate studios feel so desolate, absent and is separate from the studio in which one's tend to create work in. There's closeness to resources available but the rooms and spaces to which these resources are in, seem far as not is the same environment. They're two separate spaces, and rooms.

“The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery.”
― Anais Nin
In finality, we've prepared and there has been a few ideas looming in the mind with it's electrical charges shining illumination to the incubation stage at present moment. The data inputs have been evaluated and verifications has been put in place. The process for creating art, is unique and varies from artist to artist.
For the self, so it seems that this process begins with reflection and contemplation accompanied beside nature; mostly body of waters, sound, and flowers. There needs to be land in which nature/vegetation is present. Otherwise one often may find oneself staring abyssally, into the white walls of the studio.
In the process of creating a work of art can take form of deep, personal and introspective experiences to which memories, lived experiences, emotions is interconnected to the artist hence creating depths, individual styles, meaning and voice.

There's choice to explore the unknown and create the unknown where every choice made is experimental. To some this choice may not be experimental but definite. The choices made are complex as well due to the fact that the choices are able to change the original vision of the artist.

In preparation for our artist interview, Lisa and I met to discuss our plan and location to which the interview would be taking place. Of course, the cafe was out and not our realm as it would be to distracting. So we decided to explore Bahá'í House of Worship located in 100 Linden Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091, United States . This is a Temple in Wilmette, Illinois. We choose this location due to it's breath taking architecture and the nine gardens withing the parameters that had fountains and flowers including tree. The lake was nearby as well and the atmosphere was lovely. To accompany us on the way, we had our tools for recording(such as cameras, sound equipment as in microphone, and our phones). Of course it was only right to have a picnic as well.
Food and nourishment including hydration was an important aspect of the days course. Both Lisa and I enjoyed our setting environment, food, and exploration of the parameters at the Bahá'í House of Worship. It was important for both us to be at peace with ease, but also in an open environment that wasn't cluster phobic or loud. So we chose to be in nature. We named our microphones with Lias's name being Ha'i spelled “H-a-apostrophe-I” in honor of the Baha’i Temple & mine being "JUPITER" as in planet Jupiter within our galaxy space system. Our picnic consisted of berries(strawberries, blueberries, grapes) accompanied with cheese, smoked salmon, water and tonic spritz water for freshness.
It was a day of laughter and giggles as this was both new to us, we had a few bloopers here and there in regards to my camera and sound(microphone) and half of the blueberries fell on to the covered ground of grass. We didn't eat the fallen ones as we feared that the "levitation matter/waste material might have taken host of the blueberries, to which wouldn't be sanitary for consumption". Hahahhaaaaaa, hmmmm. We both fostered a safer space for both of us to exist in wholeness. Trust was built and there was vulnerability within the space. We both listened and respected each others past and present in relation to history, path , careers. It was a space were we both heard each other and met each other where we were without judgments. It was a day filled with blessings, awe, and gratefulness.

In preparation for the group collaboration in a digital space art, my focus shifted to photography and portraits instead of dyeing and fabrics. This means that I will be exploration creating portrait and a short(2-3m) film. The following below is an x-ray image of the portrait currently in emergence. Tool used is photoshop, however, I may decide to not edit the portraits and leave them in their state of origin(raw). Only the natural elements and lighting will be at place, such as wildflowers, water, the mid-day sun, morning sun or the evening/sunset sun. We are working with the elements in nature and surroundings in relation to identity, history, displacement & belonging. The film will be exploration the same themes in tandem to a written piece of poetry. We are still in the abyss.
