International Affairs provides a comprehensive educational course on how to maintain your student immigration while in the United States to all new students. Please read below for more details. Students will also receive email invitations to international student activities and education. Questions can be directed to intaff@saic.edu.
In addition to the New Student Orientation online course and Welcome Week, international students will have additional information provided in an online course and an in-person check-in. International Orientation will provide important information about maintaining your visa status, working in the United States, traveling, and more. The class will be held in Canvas, the same online system used for New Student Orientation. International Students are also required to complete a check-in with the International Affairs office after their arrival to the United States. Information on how to register for the check-in has been emailed to all incoming international students.
The online experience for International Student Orientation will launch in mid-August with the online Canvas course and is designed to be completed after arrival to the United States.
International Affairs has planned the following events for incoming international students and their families:
Wednesday, August 23rd
11:00am - 5:00pm
International Student Move-in | Assigned Residence Hall
Move-in to your new assigned residence hall! On Campus students will be able to sign up for a move in time around July 1st. Students will be emailed at their SAIC email addresses when the online form is open. Move in times slots will be one hour in length and will occur over 4 different move in days.
11:00am - 3:00pm
Immunization Clinic | Student Leadership Suite (Sharp 205), 37 S. Wabash Ave.
Health Services staff will be providing required immunizations (Td/Tdap, MMR, and MenQuadfi meningitis vaccines).
7:00pm - 8:00pm
New International Student Residence Life Meeting | Assigned Residence Hall
The Residence Life staff and student Resident Advisors (RA’s) would like to welcome you to your new home! Come meet some of your fellow international students and learn more about living on campus.
8:00pm – 10:00pm
Jet Lag Party | 162 N. State Residence Hall, 17th floor
Join the staff of the Nuveen Center for International Student Learning on the 17th floor of the 162 N. State Street Residences and gather with your new neighbors. The Nuveen Center Staff will help you meet other new students by playing games and working on decorations for your new home.

Join International Affairs for a family breakfast and student panel. This is an opportunity to get to know your fellow international students and hear from campus administration. Please register here if you would like to attend (SAIC email address required).

International Student Immigration Check-In (Required)| 37 S. Wabash (Sharp Building) 3rd Floor
All international students are required by the U.S. government to to complete a check-in with the International Affairs office and provide updated contact information as part of maintaining your F-1 student visa status. Check your SAIC email for registration information.
10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Immunization Clinic | 37 S. Wabash (Sharp Building) 3rd Floor, (exact location TBD)
International Affairs has partnered with Health Services to provide immunizations during our orientation activities. If you are missing any required immunizations, you will be able to receive them at the same-time you complete your international student check-in.
International Affairs also partners with Campus Life for Welcome Week programming August 27th-29th.
