ECP/O/SI Classes may have CAAP students within them. CAAP students are denoted on the Youth Attendance Tracker. If you have a CAAP student enrolled in your course, you will also receive an email notifying you from CS Administration prior to the first class.
You can find more information about the College Arts Access Program here. This three-year college bridge program allows CPS students to take ECP/O/SI courses in a scaffolded manner that prepares them for the college admissions process.
Administrative staff may stop in from time to time to deliver CAAP-specific items (an admin staff person may come by to deliver items during the first class period), as CAAP students are given funds for food, supplies, and transit. If a CAAP student ever has trouble getting specific supplies (i.e., needs supplies from a place where ARTICards are not accepted), they should know to contact the administrative staff.
CAAP students can use the funds loaded onto their ARTICard as ARTICash or CAAPCash to purchase supplies at :
Blick Art Materials (16 W. Randolph St.) NOT online
Barnes & Noble College Booksellers (1 E. Jackson St.)
Material Source around campus
If you have a CAAP student in your course who needs to purchase supplies elsewhere, please contact saic-youth@saic, or saic-CAAP@saic.edu.
If a student loses their SAIC ID card, have them email - saic-caap@saic.edu, and we can issue a replacement.
CAAP students are given Ventra funds each term to get to and from class and for travel on field trips. Please email saic-caap@saic.edu with your Transit ID number (not card number) if you or a TA needs Ventra funds for field trips as well.
The College Arts Access Program (CAAP) kindly requests that you complete the CAAP Evaluation Form (now a Google form that will be emailed to you) for the student(s) in your course.
These evaluations help us track student progress and support them. Please remember that students will be sent these evaluations. Make sure to address the student directly in your notes.
Click the link to complete the form on your phone or computer. The evaluations are due one week after the last class session.
Please note that evaluations must only be completed for the above CAAP students, not the entire class. Refer to the current youth roster. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
FOR CO-TAUGHT ALL CAAP COURSES:
Please note that we only need one evaluation per student, so you can split the roster between yourselves as needed.
Please email us at saic-youth@saic.edu if a CAAP student is not consistently showing up or might not pass their class. We give our CAAP students special attention and check-ins during their 3 years with us to make sure they are doing ok and thriving.
Mentors will plan and lead field trips (usually two a semester) for CAAP students. To propose an idea for a field trip, they submit this proposal template. Field trip costs are covered by CS CAAP funds.
It is the TA's job to document class and student work. Allow TAs to have their phones or DSLR cameras out during class to do documentation. TAs should also be given time to upload and label images (often during studio time, lectures, or clean-up time).
Documenting CAAP classes and events is especially important, as this helps us secure funding.
CAAP Juniors take regular ECP/O/SI classes throughout the year as electives. They will still receive funds for supplies, and faculty will still need to complete CAAP evaluations.
Please let us know at saic-youth@saic.edu if your class is going on a field trip to purchase supplies together so we can ensure the CAAP students have a way to purchase their supplies.
