3 Step Process
STEP 1: The interactive process simply means those seeking an accommodation and the employer work together to explore options.
The interactive process is required and begins with the requestor contacting a member of the Human Resources Employee Relations team.

STEP 2: Complete and submit the Accommodation Request Form and Medical Certification Form (if either or both are recommended by Employee Relations).
STEP 3: Human Resources / Employee Relations continues the interactive process through conversations with the staff or faculty member's supervisor, department head, or Dean. During these conversations, the essential functions of the job description are reviewed to understand if and how the request can be granted. Employee Relations may meet further with all parties to determine, select, and implement the accommodation that is most appropriate.
Who will see my medical information and will it remain confidential?
We value the privacy of your personal health information. Only those with a need-to-know basis within Human Resources will see your information. At no time during the interactive process will your information be shared to anyone else by a member of Human Resources.
Any medical or disability-related information will be separated from your medical personnel file.
Timeframe for accommodation requests
Requests for accommodation will be reviewed and processed as expeditiously as possible, and may depend on proper supporting medical documentation or if special equipment has to be ordered. Any approval or denial will be provided to the requestor in writing.
