AUDITIONS 

Storyline & Title Connection:

"The Lint Trap" symbolizes the accumulated dreams, forgotten aspirations, and sometimes the mundane realities that can build up in our lives, much like lint in a dryer. For the high school staff, their past selves – vibrant with youthful dreams – got "trapped" or redirected into the very practical, yet often overlooked, profession of education. The musical explores how these past dreams, though sometimes hidden, still influence their present, and how they navigate the balance between what they once wanted to be and who they've become. The "trap" isn't necessarily negative; it's a place where things collect, and where, upon closer inspection, valuable insights and connections can be found. By the end, they learn to appreciate the "lint" – the unique tapestry of their lives.

Logline: A group of high school staff, once brimming with youthful dreams, confront their present realities and forgotten aspirations as they journey through their past selves, from elementary to graduation, in a heartfelt and hilarious exploration of what it means to be "stuck" in "The Lint Trap."

CAST REQUIREMENTS – 33 principal roles plus ensemble (ages 7+ and up)

Where? Athol High School - 2363 Main St , Athol Ma. Enter through main doors

When?  Wednesday, February 11th @ 7pm and Sunday, February 15th @ 1pm

What: Please prepare a short vocal selection that best shows your abilities and range. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear for dance auditions. Also expect cold-readings from the script for key roles.

Characters:

Scarlett: High School Fashion Design Teacher. Mid 20’s-40’s. Stylish, intelligent, and incredibly supportive of her students. As a child, she dreamed of being a famous fashion designer in NYC

Teen Scarlett: 14-18

Elementary Scarlett: 7-10

Sonny: High School Drama Teacher.Mid 20’s-40’s. A flamboyant and theatrical individual with a thick New York/ Jersey accent. He lives and breathes theater and sees the dramatic potential in every situation. As a child he dreamed of being a Broadway Star.

Teen Sonny: 14-18

Elementary Sonny: 7-10

Olivia: High School Principal. Mid 20’s-40’s. A natural leader, athletic, determined, and strong-willed. She achieved success but carries a subtle sense of loneliness, always striving, never quite feeling settled. As a child, she wanted to be a professional athlete.

Teen Olivia: 14-18

Elementary Olivia: 7-10

Sophia: High School Guidance Counselor. Mid 20’s-40s. Super caring, motherly, always a supportive presence. Was a standout athlete in her youth. Loves plants (her office is filled with them) and taking care of people. Sees the best in everyone.

Vince: High School History Teacher. Mid 20’s-40s.Athletic (football, wrestling), loud, and boisterous, but deeply caring (though he tries to hide it with a gruff exterior). A big kid at heart.

Lola (Lolita): High School Cafeteria Manager. Mid 20’s-40s.A spicy, funny, and loud woman who spreads love and laughter. She always wanted to be a nurse.

Dave: High School Janitor. Mid 20’s-40s.Quiet, observant, and seemingly unassuming. In his youth, he was known as the “tough kid” but  he aspired to be a concert pianist, a dream he quietly put aside.

Kate: High School Math Teacher. Early 30s. Organized, pragmatic, and a bit sarcastic. Was always the one with the answers in school but secretly yearned for more spontaneity.

Coach ( Jay) Miller: High School Athletic Director. Mid 20’s-40s. Gruff, no-nonsense, but has a soft spot for his athletes. Was a star athlete in his own youth.

Mrs. Duguay (Jeanette): High School Art Teacher. Mid 20’s-40s.Eccentric and free-spirited, often lost in her own creative world. Encourages individuality in her students.

Lou Lou: Cafeteria Worker.  Mid 20’s-40s.Pops in and out of scenes offering food because she is super proud of what she creates. In her younger years, she wanted to be a vet.
