In MFL, we want students to communicate in all 4 skills, with increasing accurate pronunciation and intonation, with a bank of key vocabulary in a range of topics that affect their daily life, as well as basic knowledge of grammar to be able to express what they want to say, in everyday situations and imaginary ones. We want them to be able to understand others, but also in the context of different traditions that may be alien to their own. The curriculum planning will bridge the gap from KS2 by reviewing key concepts from the beginning but with added optional challenges based on skills and grammar for students with previous knowledge. Topics then follow a sequence based on the world around students, students learn both French and Spanish and express an interest in one of them at the end of the year before continuing with one language in Year 8 and 9. We look forward helping our students develop as global citizens.
We also aim to provide cultural experiences for all of our students and pride ourselves on the extra curricular opportunities that are available at Arnold Hill Academy these include; a Year 10 to Opal Coast (France) and Barcelona (Spain), Key Stage 5 Spanish to Granada and aspirational visits to the University of Nottingham for language taster days for Year 9 and Year 10.
