Mission Statement
The mission of our elementary school library is to inspire a love of reading, foster curiosity, and support lifelong learning. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming space where students can explore new ideas, develop critical thinking skills, and discover a world of imagination. Through a diverse collection of books and resources, we aim to empower young learners, encourage creativity, and promote the joy of reading as a gateway to academic success and personal growth.
Laura Atlee
latlee@arlington.k12.ma.us
Laura could not be more thrilled to start her second year in Arlington Public Schools! She loves new adventures, new beginnings, and new books. Laura's favorite thing is helping students, and her four children, find books that are like Goldilocks and the Three Bears - “just right.” She brings her enthusiasm to both Hardy and Thompson.
Meri Wall
mdwall@arlington.k12.ma.us
This is Meri’s second year in the Thompson Library and 19th year working in Arlington Public Schools. She is excited to bring her love of picture books and reading to encourage the students at Thompson to be lifelong readers. Some of her hobbies include traveling (especially to Disney World), the Patriots, and spending time with her two children.
Thompson School Library Borrowing Policy
To help you enjoy our books and keep everything running smoothly, we have a few simple rules. Please take a moment to read through our library policy:
1. Book Checkout Limits
The number of books you can check out at a time depends on your grade level:
Kindergarten: 1 book
Grade 1: 1 book
Grade 2: 2 books
Grade 3: 3 books
Grade 4: 4 books
Grade 5: 5 books
2. Bringing Books Home
All students can take their books home to read, share with family, and enjoy!
3. Weekly Book Return
Books should be returned every week so that everyone has the chance to borrow new ones. Don’t forget to bring them back on your library day!
4. Renewing Books
Really enjoying a book or forget to return it? No problem, you can renew it.
5. Lost or Damaged Books
If a book is misplaced, lost, or damaged, families will not be charged for it. Please let the librarian know if something happens to one of your books. If you are feeling particularly guilty, you are welcome to buy a new or used copy of the book, but it is not necessary.
6. Popular Series Limit
You may only check out two books from the same popular series at a time. This includes series like Dog Man, Who Would Win?, and other favorites.
7. Books for School Projects
Books you check out for a school project may be kept until the project is finished. These do not count toward your regular checkout limit.
8. Access for All Students
You can check out any book in the library, no matter your grade level, age, or reading ability. Feel free to explore!
9. Placing Books on Hold
If a book you want is currently checked out, you can request to put it on hold. When it’s available, we will let you know so you can check it out.
Enjoy Your Time in the Library!
We hope you find books that are fun and exciting, and remember that the library is a place for everyone to learn, grow, and imagine. If you need help finding the perfect book, just ask your librarian!
Thank you for following these rules and helping keep our library a great place for everyone!
