Alyson Gerber, a New York Times best-selling author of many well-known YA books, visited 8th graders on Friday, May 15th! She shared her struggles in middle school - having undiagnosed ADHD on top of the diagnosis of scoliosis, for which she had to weaer a full torso brace throughout her time as a 6-8th grader - and how important it is to embrace your differences and challenges, to turst yourself and your own experience, and to seek and accept support to overcome obstacles. Alyson offered creative writing tips, and talked abou ther own writing process, including her love of feedback and need to revise A LOT; she encouraged students to try something they're not good at so they can learn to sturggle, to fail, and to work through challenges. This awesome opportunity was made possible by the PTO and OMS families who purchased personalized and signed copies of Alyson's books!
