European City Ad

Sometimes you want to do more than inform readers about a place. Sometimes you want to persuade them that it is amazing. That is your task with this project. You are to create a one page advertisement for a European city (8.5” x 11”). Your ad must make readers want to visit. You should highlight the sites (historic, architectural, natural); culture (music, art, dance, language, food); and any other interesting facts that would attract tourists. You may draw your final product or use the one-page Google Slide template provided in Google Classroom.

Process:

• Choose a topic. It must be a city you’ve NEVER been to and have NEVER researched before for a school project. You may choose from the list or suggest your own topic with teacher approval.
• Choose sources of information. Use reputable travel-related websites like Lonely Planet, Rick Steves’s Europe, Fodor’s, Fromer’s, Travel and Leisure, major newspaper travel pages, or National Geographic Travel. Avoid generic, unedited sites like TripAdvisor, Kayak, etc for this project.
• Take notes in the planning sheet in Google Classroom. Cite your sources. Choose images and cite those as well.
• Choose information from your notes to include in your final project. This is often called “curating”.
• Design a rough layout for your project. Look at the examples for inspiration.
• Add your information.
• Consider adding design elements- lines, backgrounds, graphics, borders. Make sure they don’t interfere with your ability to read the text.
• EDIT: proofread, check capitalization, have a friend or family member or ME check it over. Fix mistakes.
• Submit the final product either on paper or in Google Classroom. Make sure your name is on any paper project.
