Curriculum
We are using an adapted version of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, an open source curriculum, developed in a partnership between Illustrative Mathematics (author) and Open Up Resources (developer). The curriculum is "a problem-based core curriculum rooted in content and practice standards to foster learning and achievement for all. Students learn by doing math, solving problems in mathematical and real-world contexts, and constructing arguments using precise language."
The 6th grade curriculum covers the following topic areas:
Area and Surface Area
Introducing Ratios
Unit Rates and Percentages
Dividing Fractions
Arithmetic in Base Ten
Expressions and Equations
Rational Numbers
Data Sets and Distributions

DreamBox
Dreambox is a website that uses adaptive skills practice. We will be using dreambox to practice old skills and keep new ones current. Many students also used dreambox in elementary school. The program saves all data from year to year so students can continue to progress through the standards. The Gibbs link to dreambox is here.
I am starting my sixteenth year working in Arlington. I worked at the Ottoson for eleven years with a one year hiatus to try out math coaching at the Bishop and the Hardy. I have two sons and two cats. In my free time I like to cook, read, and do puzzles.
