Our Mission

Greetings AHS Community!

This is the official website of the newly-formed AHS Antiracism Working Group (AWG), a partnership between AHS students and staff working closely with the Black Student Union (BSU) to discuss and act on ways to combat racism in our school.

Our group’s mission statement is as follows:

We as an Anti-racism Working Group aim to create change to center BIPOC voices and support BIPOC in our community. We are a group of students, staff, and administrators communicating and collaborating to implement effective everyday anti-racist policies at Arlington High School. The AWG is committed to achieving demands outlined by the BSU and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at AHS.

Over the past several weeks, the AWG has created 3 subcommittees, each of which is designed to promote a certain element of antiracism at AHS:

  • Resources for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)

  • Curriculum Changes

  • Creating an Everyday Anti-racist Culture at AHS

The subcommittees and the AWG as a whole have been holding and will continue to hold regular virtual meetings, during which we bring in community members serving different roles and interests throughout Arlington, discuss ways to improve current anti-racist policy at AHS, and plan another week of social activism.

At the bottom of this page is an interest form. Please fill it out if you want to be part of Arlington High School’s fight against racism and to participate in a school-wide art project about the meaning of the BLM movement.

Despite school being remote this fall, the AWG is dedicated to creating a more inclusive, anti-racist community.

Stay safe and healthy, and be a social justice hero!
