Companion Document

This document is designed to assist educators in interpreting Louisiana’s 2011 social studies standards. It contains the prioritized content and concepts aligned to GLEs for each unit.

The intent of this document is to clarify the essential content and concepts, allowing teachers more flexibility to focus on the three shifts prescribed in the social studies vision:

  1. Use sources to learn content.
  2. Make connections among people, events, and ideas across time and place.
  3. Express informed claims supported by evidence from sources and outside knowledge.
