One may ask, what is pollution? After critical group discussions and deliberation, many explanations of pollution were arrived at. These were merged into one main paragraph: Pollution is the release of pollutants such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, plastic waste, oil spills that are exposed to the environment causing various dire consequences. Some of the consequences are cancer, asthma, landfills, deforestation, illegal mining (galamsey), destruction of aquatic life and habitat, fetal deformation, destruction of the food chain, and many more.
What can we do to CONTROL these problems?
On this website, you will find the causes, effects and possible solutions to this menace facing the world.
Agbogbloshi dump site, Accra
River Pra, Eastern region of Ghana
Air pollution from Ghana's E-waste Accra, Ghana
People live close to filth
Ukraine's, lake Karachy was one of the most toxic spots in the world because of the Soviet Union's dumping of radioactive waste, destroying a village's source of water. (This lake is now dry)
Dumping of refuse in the Odo Lagoon, Accra.
Light Pollution
Just as the indiscriminate disposal of plastic causes land pollution so does the use of too many artificial light causes light pollution.
Plutonium is used in nuclear wars and is one of the most radioactive substance. It destroys and contaminate water bodies and soil.
Air pollution can cause asthma, lung cancer and etc.
When children play around landfills, they can easily hurt themselves and also contract various diseases
Water pollution is a cause for diseases such as Typhoid fewer, Hepatitis A, Cholera.
Air pollution in Europe
The effect of air pollution is asthma which is caused when smoke blocks the human air lungs.
Illegal mining (Galamsey) in Ghana
Effect Of Galamsey activities was identified as the cause of environmental problems such as water pollution, deforestation, poor soil fertility and limited access to land for agriculture productivity.
Bangladesh, Asia : There are two major sources of pollution in Bangladesh- vehicular emissions and industrial emissions.
The impact of air pollution on this country has been causing many deaths (especially of children and elders)
OUR ACTION
We would like to turn the many unwanted empty containers into re-useable items and decorative pieces like we have in the video.
We went round the school to label all the trash cans so the children will help separate the trash. This will make it easier to either reuse or recycle the waste.
OUR EXHIBITION JOURNEY
In this picture, we brainstormed and came up with ideas that are connected to pollution such as the causes, effects and also proposed our own definition of pollution.
Here we presented a google slide about air pollution, its definition, causes and effects and possible solutions.
In this picture, we were working on our action, which was to label the trash cans in the elementary ARIS campus.
It was very interesting and educative when Mr. Shadi from secondary came to teach us about pollution and climate change
Here we were working on our google sites, and sharing ideas with friends.
