Select Math Olympiad Club is an exclusive group for students passionate about math and committed to preparing for the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Classes take place every Monday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on the school campus.
Within the Math Olympiad programme, students prepare for and sit a range of reputable contests—such as the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), American Math Olympiad (AMO), the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) pathways, and other equivalent national and international competitions.
Given below are details to the various Olympiads students can participate in.
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO.
Founded in 1950, the AMC is the preeminent math competition for students K-12. Today, over 300,000 students in 50 states and over 30 countries take the AMC to bolster their confidence and passion for math.
SASMO is a math olympiad contest that stretches not only the brightest students but is aimed at instilling confidence for all students. The contest is designed in a way to make every student love Math again. SASMO contest fits nicely into the school curriculum with a high focus on non routine problem sums
American Math Olympiad (AMO) is an international math competition for elementary, middle and high school students jointly organised by SIMCC and Southern Illinois University (SIU). It promotes the importance and a deeper understanding of math. AMO is open to all Grade 2 to 12 students and its framework is based on The US Common Core Standards.
