Spanish I

Class overview

This course is designed to bring students to the novice-mid level on the High School LOTE TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Languages Other Than English) proficiency standards. This course uses a variety of language teaching approaches to help students toward mastery of the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will also develop an increased awareness of cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

In Spanish I, active participation is key to your success. Communication activities and class participation are essential for mastering a new language, so be prepared to engage fully. You will work individually, in pairs, in teams, and as a whole class to practice and reinforce your skills. The course will be conducted primarily in Spanish, immersing you in the language to help you become comfortable with both hearing and speaking it. We work bell to bell every day, so come ready to learn!
