About me
I have been a Special Education teacher for 12 years, and this is my 1st year at Argyle High School. I graduated Cum Laude from UT-El Paso with a degree in Writing and Literature in 2008. I then completed a Certification program for Special Education. I have a passion for serving teens in an Academic/STEP self-contained setting. My focus is helping young adults be successful as they transition to life beyond high school. I will work closely with Transition staff, will help provide work based learning opportunities, and will advocate for my student's needs. I value parent input and know how important it is to have a school and home connection. I love what I do and want the best for my students!
In STEP 2, we focus on:
Functional academics: real-world activities/lessons such as Money skills, budgeting, completing tasks, comprehension, using technology, initiating and completing tasks, etc...
In class support for electives to foster independence at school
Practice social, vocational and independent living skills: Work based Learning and Community Based Instructional opportunities, Daily Living skills, Self-Advocacy, Safety Awareness
Collaborate with Transition staff for life beyond high school: explore career interests, post-secondary options and goals, provide support and information for family decisions about services through Adult agencies.
