About me

Hello! Welcome AWE's "littlest eagles" 🦅 and families!  My name is Katie Scanlin and it is an honor to be your child's teacher this school year!  

As an educator - and mother myself - I take tremendous pride in helping to nurture and grow your child's beautiful mind.  I believe that the formative years are the most crucial time for a child's development - this is such an impactful "window of time."  As your child's teacher, I promise to create both - an academically and functionally - rich environment that fosters learning for your child.  Every child is unique.  By cultivating an environment that is warm and welcoming - I strive to tap into that uniqueness - that helps each child to reach their fullest potential.  I believe that this is done with structure, fidelity, play, exploration and most importantly - love!  ♥️

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and a Master's Degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Disabilities.  This is my tenth year teaching special education - I have taught in Georgia (born and raised in the Peach State 🍑) and now, Texas!  

My wonderful husband, Ryan, and I, have been married for nine years and are blessed to have four sweet children : Stella (8), Wyatt (6), Reese (4) and Beckett (2.). The "big three" 🤪 will be attending West this year, wahoo!  Little Beckett will join us in a couple of years!  Thankfully, Ryan and I, have both of our families close by to help support our little family - it truly takes a village!  We just moved to Argyle over the summer - and we are thrilled to officially be apart of such an incredible community!

In my spare time 😂 I like to bake, attempt to create all of the cute/crafty things on Canva -          (definitely a work in progress 😜), and worship with our church community.  I also LOVE to learn ALL new things regarding special education!  I'm always eager to seek out an exciting professional development opportunity 👏 so that I can implement those new skills in my classroom.  

Again, thank you SO much for entrusting me to be such an intricate part of your child's learning journey ♥️  I do not take this role lightly - and I am genuinely thankful to live out this special vocation.  Please know that we are a team - and I greatly value parent/teacher communication.  I am here for every step of the way!  I look forward to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for your sweet children to thrive in this year!  ♥️🖤♥️
