At Gibson Middle School, 7th and 8th Grade ELAR students engage with HMH Into Literature, a rigorous and engaging curriculum designed to help students become confident readers, writers, speakers, and critical thinkers.
Through a variety of literary and informational texts, students explore diverse perspectives, analyze complex ideas, and make meaningful connections to the world around them. The curriculum encourages students to think deeply, discuss thoughtfully, and communicate effectively through reading, writing, speaking, and collaboration.
Students will:
Read and analyze a wide range of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and informational texts.
Develop critical thinking and comprehension skills through close reading and text analysis.
Strengthen writing skills through narrative, argumentative, and informational compositions.
Expand vocabulary and language skills through purposeful instruction and practice.
Participate in collaborative discussions that promote communication and leadership.
Use digital resources and technology tools to enhance learning and engagement.
Build independent reading habits that foster a lifelong love of literacy.
The HMH curriculum provides opportunities for differentiation and personalized learning, allowing students to grow from their individual starting points while being challenged to reach their highest potential. Through engaging lessons, real-world connections, and meaningful learning experiences, students will develop the literacy skills necessary for success in middle school, high school, and beyond.
Our goal is to create a classroom environment where students feel empowered to take risks, think critically, express their ideas confidently, and discover the power of reading and writing.
Together, we will inspire curiosity, encourage growth, and cultivate a lifelong love of learning.
