Grading:
Your overall grade per quarter (every 9 weeks) will be 50% major (weighted more) and 50% minor. Major grades are: tests, essays, or projects. We will have at least 3 major grades per quarter. Minor grades are: a variety of daily classroom work assignments & homework. We will have at least 7 minor grades per quarter. All grades, minor or major, will be out of 100. Assignments, minor or major, that are turned in LATE will be deducted -10 points per day. Minor and major graded assignments may be corrected for a grade improvement, up to a 70%. If a student would like to take advantage of a grade improvement opportunity they MUST have that assignment turned in ON TIME (completed). Corrections are only for those students that score below a 70 and had their assignments turned in on time (completed).
Classroom Expectations:
Act right. Check Google Classroom daily. Stay on top of your assignments and due dates, these can be found in Google Classroom. You are expected to bring a charged chromebook, your nicky folder, headphones, and writing tools (pencils, pens, highlighters) to class each day. Make sure you place all work (graded and ungraded) in your nicky folder for safe keeping. It is very important to keep your World Cultures section within your nicky folder organized (clean it out at the end of each quarter). In this class we have a lot of class discussions. You will be expected to participate in these discussions as well as coming to class ready to learn.
You can expect from me a light hearted approach to teaching, yet firm with my classroom expectations. I want this to be a comfortable environment where you can express your thoughts and perspectives without fear of being wrong or judged. In addition to the TEKS, our overall daily goals will be to share out, question, discuss, research, and seek out answers together.
My 1 Classroom Rule:
If what you are doing …..
interferes with others learning, hurts someone’s feelings, or
prevents you from being the best version of yourself…..
you shouldn’t be doing it.
Absences:
There will be times when you are absent, I get it. Please make every effort to be present in class so you are not experiencing that overwhelming feeling of getting caught up. When you return it is your responsibility to go to the black pocket chart for absent students to collect what you missed. I usually try my hardest to write your name on it, the date you were absent and when it is due. Come see me for directions on the assignment(s) if need be. 1 day absent = 1 day for makeup work, 2 days absent = 2 days for makeup work, and so on. Much of the time I provide a soft copy of assignments in Google Classroom, so it is possible and preferred for you to keep pace from home (if willing/able), provided you have your Chromebook at home during your absence.
