My name is David Peddy and I've been teaching science and coaching for 30 years. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree and certified in Kinesiology and Biology. This will be my 11th year to work in the Argyle ISD. I retired for 2 years and missed teaching and coaching, so I have decided to start up again. Looking forward to being a Red Hawk!
My wife is a 2nd Grade teacher at Argyle South Elementary, my daughter is an art teacher at the Sixth Grade Center and Argyle Middle School, and my son is a Junior at UNT. We moved to Argyle 10 years ago and really enjoy the community we live in.
I am a dedicated teacher and coach. I take great pride in the fact that I have high expectations and goals for all of my students.
This year should be a challenging, but fun time for 7th grade science. 7th grade science is considered a very important time for students regarding the material being covered due to the fact they will be STAAR tested the following year at the end of 8th grade.

Educational Philosophy:
Academic: The scientific principles learned in August are just as important in May. We will constantly review previous material through vocabulary, labs, discussions, and tests.
Character: A 7th grade student is making the transition from 6th to 8th. Personal responsibility is paramount to any other quality during this transition. Students in science class will be held to a high standard of personal responsibility in the areas of listening, school work, homework, and discipline. All of these standards will be made clear to the students during the first week of school.
Objectives: To promote learning through investigation and questioning (inquiry) and to translate the knowledge learned from the science classroom into real world applications.
Course Description: 7th grade science is a mix of earth science and life science. We will be investigating atomic structure, chemistry, physics, astronomy, meteorology, geology, biology, and ecology.
Daily Requirements: Writing utensil, science binder and spiral, a charged Chromebook, online resources, and a desire to learn. The binder will serve as an interactive notebook for the student. All notes and assessments will be kept in the binder and numbered accordingly. A table of contents will be updated daily to reflect new additions to the notebook. Notebooks will be checked randomly for accuracy, and a minor grade will be given.
Grading: Each nine weeks grade will consist of the following:
Honors Tests/Major Quizzes/Major Projects: 60% - Daily Work/HW/Minor Quizzes/Labs: 40%
Regular Tests/Major Quizzes/Major Projects: 50% - Daily Work/HW/Minor Quizzes/Labs: 50%
Tests: Tests will consist mainly of multiple choice and short answer questions in the STAAR Test format and will be completed on a google form or on a printed form. The following day tests will be discussed and students will take notes over any problem missed. These unit test notes will be used by the students as references for the semester review.
Homework: Late work for both Honors and regular science, can be turned in by the end of the day for 5 points off. The next day, at the start of class, for 10 points off. Resulting in a 60 for a grade if done perfectly. Work turned in later than 2 days will receive a zero.
Failing Test grades: Major tests can be retaken, NOT CORRECTED, for a 70.
*They must be done the day after a student fails them and retakes will be more difficult than the original.
**I do not offer test corrections. Too many times kids just copy the answers from others.
Tutorials: WIll be done during 4th Period Advisory on Monday - Wednesday - Friday from 11:10 - 11:35.
CLASS PROCEDURES
Before class, line up along the wall in the hall, remain quiet, and turn off your phone.
Enter the room only when instructed to do so by the teacher.
Quietly take your seat and get prepared for class. (Get out a pen or pencil, TOC, and your assignment.)
Check the board for the day's date & agenda. Check the monitor for the daily assignments & copy into the TOC.
Listen for and follow the instructions given by the teacher throughout the period.
If you have a question or statement, raise your hand and wait to be called upon.
Straighten desks, pick up any trash, and line up when instructed to do so by the teacher the last 2 minutes of class.
Exit the room only when instructed to do so by the teacher, not the bell.
CLASS RULES
1. Respect Others'...Self, Space, & Stuff. No negative comments!
2. Follow Class Procedures
3. Do not talk while another individual is speaking. Do not be rude!
DETENTION
If a student shows blatant disregard for a rule he/she will be given a regular lunch detention in my room.
If a student gets their name written down by a substitute for any form of misbehavior, they will serve 3 days of lunch detention in my room.
If detentions do not deter the misbehaviors, an office referral will be given to the student.
DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Daily announcements will be sent home daily in your google classroom. All materials needed and all the work that will be used in class the next day will be listed in the announcement. Reminders of quizzes and/or tests will be listed too. Students who read the announcements every evening will always know what to be prepared for in Science the next day!
***Once all students have their chromebooks and have joined my google classroom, parents are invited to join their child’s google classroom to see all announcements throughout the year.
