Welcome back! This handout will give you some idea of the course content.  You should read it carefully for future reference.  I look forward to working with each of you in order to extend and enhance your understanding of mathematics.

REQUIRED SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Students must always have access to the district-issued Chromebook, folder/3-ring notebook, spiral notebook(s)/notebook paper, pencils, blue or black ink pens, and wired earbuds/headphones for viewing videos.

**A TI-84bgraphing calculator is strongly recommended. **

Only Argyle ISD Chromebooks are allowed in class, as this is district policy.  Go Guardian will be in effect each class period and will restrict what you have access to.

Tutoring Schedule

Monday-Friday mornings 8-8:30.

If you need any other time, please feel free to speak with me and schedule an appointment.  Please have specific questions which are based on your efforts to do the assignments since this will allow me to help you in a timely and efficient manner.

Course Description:  

AP Statistics is an introductory college-level statistics course that introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students cultivate their understanding of statistics using technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they explore concepts like variation and distribution; patterns and uncertainty; and data-based predictions, decisions, and conclusions.

Course Policies and Procedures:

Class expectations

• Be prompt - students are to be seated and ready to begin class when the bell rings.

• Be prepared - All materials and assignments should be ready for use by the start of class.

• Be respectful - Students are expected to be polite and respectful of teachers, peers, and their property.

• Participate appropriately - In order to be successful, it is necessary for students to actively listen, participate, ask questions, take part in class discussions, and complete assigned tasks.

• Be productive - Utilize class and tutorial time to complete assignments and ask questions! Do your job!  I promise to do mine!

Daily Procedures: 

• Phones, smartwatches and earbuds will be put in backpacks/bags.

• During notes/lectures, Chromebooks will be closed and put away.

• Putting your head down and/or sleeping is not tolerated.

• Restroom visits are NOT allowed during lectures or if I am giving instruction.

Failure to be prepared for class, be polite to teachers and peers, or participate appropriately in class will have consequences as outlined in the Code of Conduct.  Possible consequences include:

• Verbal warning

• Detention

• Parent contact/conference

Grading Policy:

80%      Tests and Projects

20%     Notes/Activities, Quizzes, Homework

Each semester ends with a comprehensive semester exam that counts 20% of the semester grade.

Expectations:

All Activities and Notes must be completed daily.  To learn the material, concepts must be practiced, so daily homework is given. There will be an assignment every night. I am available for tutoring mornings and most afternoons (see above for scheduled tutoring times).

Homework will be collected on Quiz and Test days and will count as a Minor Grade as well.

Quizzes and Tests will be used to assess mastery of material.

Late and Make-up Work:

Late work will be accepted one day late with a 10-point reduction, and two days late with a 30-point reduction. Any later than two days late, the teacher may assign a grade of a zero. If a student is absent for any reason, the student will have the amount of time they were absent plus one day to make up the assignments, quizzes, or tests that were missed during their absence. The Late work policy goes into effect after that time. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for the missed assignments. Work assigned before the absence is due immediately upon returning to class. I recommend that a student who has been absent attend tutorials. If a student misses a quiz due to an absence, an alternate assignment may be given at my discretion.

If a student misses a test day due to an absence, a make-up test date must be scheduled the day the student returns to class and the test must be made up within one week.
