Welcome to the AWE Counselor Corner
Hello Argyle West!
My name is Amelia Torres and I am your school counselor. I am so excited to be a part of the AWE school community.
Welcome to our new school year! Please be assured, we are here to support you throughout your journey this school year. No matter what challenges we face, we are committed to serving your child and making a difference in their lives.
A school counselor has many roles in the school, and one of my most important roles is to provide support to our school community, and that includes our families, students, staff, and more! Each day, I work to support students through learning that is rooted in social and emotional growth. Throughout the day you will find me supporting students in their development of healthy coping skills, understanding of emotions and feelings, self acceptance, conflict resolution skills, academic achievement, and so much more!
This is my 7th year as a school counselor and 14th year in education. I spent the past 13 years just down the road in Denton ISD as an elementary school teacher and professional school counselor. During my time in Denton ISD, I created a clothing closet that received thousands of articles of clothing to support hundreds of students, piloted a Peace Path that promoted communication during social conflict, received the Region 11 Counselor of the Month, CREST Award, and was Denton ISD's 2024 District Elementary Counselor of the Year. I absolutely love school counseling and working with students, staff, and families, and I am passionate about the impact we make as educators.
I received my Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies in EC-6 with a Minor in Spanish from UNT. I always knew I wanted to be a school counselor, so I went back to UNT and received my Masters of Science in Counseling with a focus in Play Therapy. I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Outside of school, I work for the University of Texas at Tyler, supervising future school counselors.
My family and I made the move to Argyle a few years ago and I was very eager to get more involved in our Argyle community. We love biking, getting outdoors, drinking good coffee, being together, and traveling to New Mexico, Arkansas, and Colorado.
I am looking forward to a successful year of growth, opportunity, and memorable experiences for all of our AWE Eagles.Reach out to me anytime if I can support you.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Manu Shahi for leading an engaging and informative session during our Spring Semester Parent Workshop. Based on feedback from our beginning-of-the-year parent survey, our elementary counselors identified a need for support in guiding children’s study skills.
Ms. Manu facilitated an interactive workshop focused on executive functioning skills, providing parents with practical strategies to help their children develop strong study habits. Topics included effective material management, establishing supportive study routines, creating an optimal homework environment, and breaking down tasks for long-term projects.
We appreciate Ms. Manu’s time and expertise in supporting our school community. If you are interested in learning more, please visit mystudysmart.org.
Boosting Children's Study Habits
Come and join Ms. Manu Shahi from Homework in a Cafe and the Argyle Elementary Counselors for a hands-on parent workshop that focuses on boosting your child's organization, planning, focus, self-control, and flexibility. You will leave with time management techniques to instill in your child as well as a study plan.
Parent Presentation-Pro Kindness and Antibullying
Attention AWE Parents and Caregivers,
Have you ever wondered how to best support your child through a social conflict situation? Come join us on Monday, October 21st at 6pm in the cafeteria at Jane Ruestmann Elementary for a special presentation by Carolyn Jennings Brown. In this parenting workshop, you will learn how to support your child, talk through the differences between conflict and bullying, and how to build resilient kids who impact their community in a positive way.
Students will also attend a presentation during the school day on Monday, October 21st. Other parents who have attended this presentation have reported it was valuable and a great use of their time. We can't wait to see you there! If you have any questions, please contact our school counselor Amelia Torres.
