The Girl’s Basketball team finished with a record of 0-14, ending the season with their recent game against the Windsor Dukes on Wednesday, February 9th, at home. Though the team had a rough season, they continued to “remain positive and have fun” according to Kaylin Young (Sussex).
Their February 2nd game against the Franklin Broncos acted as a senior night celebration for Class of 2022 members Nyla Anderson (Colonial Heights) and Grace Smith (Prince George). They honored their seniors with a close game of 33-39, with Smith as their highest scorer of the night.
“I was super pumped for our last few games,” said Alexandria Rhodes (Dinwiddie). Coming back from her ankle injury from a previous match, she was able to return to the team during their last games of the season.
The team held their heads high because of the result of the senior night game, hoping for a similar outcome for the remainder of the season. “After [senior night], I felt like everyone was on the better side of things,” said Rhodes.
The team consisted of six players: Nyla Anderson (Colonial Heights), Alexis Manila (Chesterfield), Madeline “Maddie” Riggs (Petersburg), Alexis Washington (Chesterfield), Grace Smith (Prince George), and Alexandria Rhodes (Dinwiddie). They were coached by Eric Brower.
Although their season has come to an end, the girls seem to be excited to do better next season. “For my first year, I think that we have many things to improve on, but I’m excited for next year,” said Young.
