Humane Letters I

Class Overview

Welcome to Humane Letters I! This will be an exciting, challenging, and highly rewarding course. It is the beginning of the Humane Letters sequence at Arete Preparatory Academy; as such, it constitutes an essential foundation for the unique experience in which you are participating. Who you are is related to the historical, social, and philosophical development of the United States and the continental Americas. By examining our shared history, we can better examine ourselves and our place in the world around us. We will engage in this project through the careful study of key historical developments and some of the seminal literary and philosophical voices of the U.S. Most importantly, the central objective of our class is to develop and refine the skills of seminar participation in order to be better listeners, speakers and thinkers.
