Dear Parents/Carers,
I must begin by reflecting on the incredible efforts and hard work displayed by our wonderful Year 6 pupils this week. As you will be aware, this week has been Year 6 SATS week. The children worked hard and with such resilience and determination. We simply could not be prouder of them. They enjoyed an exciting bowling trip today and enjoyed time with their friends and adults. This treat was very well deserved!
Mrs Khan, Miss Fuller and the rest of the Year 6 team have worked with such commitment and care for your children in preparing them for these assessments. I am sure you will join me in thanking them for their hard work in supporting your children.
We also have some exciting news to share on a tremendous achievement for Ardley Hill Academy! On Friday 1st May, eight children represented Ardley Hill Academy at the Chiltern Learning Trust's Digital Showcase. Children in Year 5 and Year 6 worked together to create an app that supports Positive Climate Action. These children worked so hard and used some of their lunchtimes to design and build their app. They then had to showcase their app idea to all schools within the trust (and even people from Google!) and talk to other schools about why their app will help the climate crisis. We are pleased to say that after all of their hard work, our wonderful students won the Apps for Good competition! They won a trophy and a laptop for the school. A huge well done and congratulations to: Jorgie, Chloe, Noah, Harrison, Phoenix, Poppy, Tobias and Sara. We are very excited for you to show the whole school your wonderful app idea in next Friday's celebration assembly. We are so proud of them and how well they collaborated with each other. We hope that in the future the app developers at Google will take on their idea!
Across the school, children have been enjoying some wonderful learning opportunities. Year 5 children have enjoyed visiting Dunstable Leisure Centre for their weekly swimming lessons; we have been so very impressed with the progress they have made. Well done children!
We are fast approaching the end of the academic year and have some lovely activities and learning opportunities to look forward to. Year 1 children will be completing their Phonics Screening Assessments after half term and Year 4 children will be sitting their Multiplication Tables Check too!
I hope that you all have a lovely weekend with your children. Year 6 children; we hope that you will all enjoy a good rest after your incredible work this week.
Kind regards,
Mrs Katie Waterman
Head of School
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by the winning class for that week receiving Paddington Bear to sit pride of place in their classroom. The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last week was:
Week of 4th May: Italy class with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 94.38%
Week of 11th May: Belgium Class class with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 95.34%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
As a school we would prefer that any siblings collecting children are Year 9 and above. This is due to the fact that picking up a younger sibling from school requires your older child to take responsibility for them. However, we do fully understand that navigating and organising collection times for children can be a challenge. Therefore we will always review any requests for sibling collection and act in the best interest of the child. Please do contact the school office where this will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Due to the weather still being unpredictable we would recommend every child brings a coat with them to school especially for break times and lunchtimes.
We have lots of un-named coats and jumpers around the school. If your child has lost a coat or jumper please contact the office or ask your child to check in the hall or around the school. Any unclaimed coats by the end of term will be donated.
Each key stage has a new bingo card and the aim of the game is to collect all the things that are on it. We are asking for good quality donations of items you no longer need or have grown out of.
If the Key stage succeeds in collecting everthing on their bingo card, then they will receive a prize and an extra 30 minutes play.
Please see below 'wish list' for FOAH amazon. If you are able to add an item to your shopping basket we would really appreciate it and then it will be delivered straight to school.

This year, every class will be creating a collaborative Art and Design Technology project to showcase at our School Art Exhibition on 3 July. The finished pieces will be auctioned in a silent auction to help raise funds for much-needed art supplies across the year groups.
