Tattered Tales hosts entirely free book fairs that repurpose "tattered", or used books to new, loving homes. All books are all gently used donations from bookstores or the local community. Our first two events were hosted in collaboration with the amazing organization, "Heart of Los Angeles". HOLA provides enriching activities for kids in underserved communities.
At Event #1 in November 2023, Tattered Tales gave away over 200 books to children in underserved communities. In addition to each child being able to take home 2-3 books, families were able to color in their own bookmarks.
At Event #2 in May 2024, we were able to distribute around 400 books to 150 kids. Additionally, this event included some fabulous poems for the children to take home and read, as well as the opportunity for them to write their own poetry. The crowd favorite activity, bookmark making, was also continued.
At Event #3 in December 2024, Tattered Tales provided close to 300 books. Bookmark making was continued from past events and members of the Archer School for Girls helped fill out “Highlighted Book” slips, sharing their rating of a book featured in the book fair.📚🙌
