Hello my name is Norah and I am a year 11 student at Arcadia British School. I am a frequent skier and noticed an issue with most traditional ski boots: They are bulky, heavy and have many buckles on them so it takes an annoying amount of time to fully put them on as they also have a very narrow foot hole. My family is also a ski family and complain about the same issue yearly. As a solution to this problem, I am designing an inflatable ski boot. The way this would work is that it would have a hard and sturdy outer shell with a soft inflatable interior to comfortably fit your foot with no awkward gaps.
The reason I decided to make this project was because my family and I are regular skiers and love going on ski holidays. As mentioned before, they are very difficult to manage and often take up loads of space. My grandpa is mainly the one with the complaints and as he is getting old, back pain is growing with him. The buckles on the ski boot make him bend down for a long amount of time as there are many on the boot, leaving him with a sore back and less energy to ski. This could be the case with many other people of older ages.
