The Senior Capstone Project serves as a culmination of a student's academic journey by providing them with a unique opportunity to combine their years of coursework, academic and personal experiences, and interest of study into an extended project. In the field of sport management, this year's capstone projects delve into various topical areas, ranging from the NBA game prediction to the impact of nationality and age on the marathon race outcome. Each project demonstrates the students' proficiency in research, problem-solving skills, and data analysis skills. Their presentations and study abstracts are accessible below, showcasing the diverse and insightful perspectives they bring to the world of sport management. These projects not only enhance the students' professional development but also contribute to the growth of the field as a whole.

Nick Abruzzi is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sport Management. During his time at Arcadia, Nick has had the opportunity to hold two strong internships. During the Fall of 2023 he held a position with Perfect Game USA where he gained managerial experience and scouting abilities. He currently holds an internship with The New Heart for Life Community, where he is gaining core marketing skills. These experiences have helped him develop strong skills that can be applied to his goal of working for the NBA.

Nadell Booker is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a major in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration and a concentration in Economics. Nadell is a 4-year member of Arcadia’s Baseball team. Over the past year, Nadell has gained intern experience working for the Philadelphia Phillies in many different areas of interest. From ticket sales to community and public relations to gameday operations. These experiences have helped Nadell to sharpen his communication and problem-solving skills which will help him pursue his career aspirations in the professional sports industry.

Robert Carter is a senior at Arcadia University from Lancaster, Massachusetts, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a concentration in Management and a minor in International Business. He is a 4-year member of the men’s cross country and track and field team. Outside of athletics Robert has worked for nearly three years at Jenkintown Running Company as a shoe tech expert and eventually as a store manager too. There he gained more knowledge and passion for his long-term goal, working for a running shoe brand. For his final internship Robert is working at Enterprise Mobility, there he continues to learn more about many important foundational values in business. As Robert finishes his degree at Arcadia, he is preparing to move up to Boston to pursue his career.

Vincent Colucci is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Sport Management. Vincent is a 4-year member of the men’s volleyball team and was named as a team captain his senior year. The summer after his sophomore year, he interned with the South Shore Chiefs, a travel baseball team. During that time, he was responsible for delivering communication between coaches and parents regarding games, practices, and other events and participated in the daily upkeep of the field to ensure quality standards were being met. These experiences have taught Vincent many skills with management and balance multiple responsibilities as he looks to pursue a career in the sports industry.

Jackson Conover is a senior at Arcadia University, pursuing a major in Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration. Jackson serves as the manager for Arcadia’s Men’s lacrosse team and has accumulated a variety of experiences throughout his college career. Following his sophomore year, he gained experience as a residential assistant at Arcadia University, and after his junior year, he delved into sports operations while working for Perfect Game USA. These experiences have helped him develop a strong work ethic, as well as communication and management skills that will aid him in pursuing his career aspirations of working in professional sports.

Will Conroy is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management. Will is a two-year member of the baseball team at Arcadia after transferring prior to junior year from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a member of the baseball team for two years. Will spent last summer and winter as an intern at Skook Sports Lab in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania where he gave lessons to baseball players ages 6-15, helped orchestrate a high school and collegiate pitching program, and learned how a start-up business worked internally. This upcoming summer, Will accepted a scouting internship with Prospect Select Baseball where he will be traveling across the northeast and helping high school baseball players be recruited, along with social media videos and blog posts. These experiences will help Will achieve his future goals of working in the player development field of baseball.

Close calls and controversies: Investigating umpire influence on the outcome of MLB games

Madison Genco is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. Madison is currently the Marketing Assistant at Healthy Solutions Medspa in Furlong and Ivyland, PA. She deals with their social media pages, advertising, influencers, and many other tasks. She also runs the Instagram and TikTok pages for The Phanatics, a Philadelphia Phillies podcast. Her junior year, she completed an internship for Preciser.io, a sport betting company. Here she wrote blogs about many sporting events, like the Super Bowl, MLB Playoffs, and NBA playoffs. Each of these roles helped her develop her work skills, but most importantly developed a love for social media and marketing, whether it be for sports or the Medical Spa.

Scarlett Glasser-Nehls is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sport Management and Business Administration. Scarlett is a 4-year member of the Arcadia Women’s Basketball team, a member of Delta Mu Delta, the business honor society, and the recipient of the Business Administration Distinguished Achievement Award. She has also represented Arcadia Athletics as a representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at the MAC Conference for 3 years. This transitioned into an executive board position with Arcadia SAAC her senior year. Following her sophomore year, Scarlett worked as an event manager and media operations intern at NLV Productions. During her junior year, Scarlett worked for the Arcadia Baseball team as a student manager and following this experience she interned as a Ticket Sales and Data Analytics intern with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Scarlett is currently interning with The Game Haus as a sports journalist specializing on articles surrounding the WNBA. These experiences have helped her develop a great work-ethic, leadership and communication skills. Upon graduation Scarlett will be attending Arcadia University to pursue her Masters of Business Administration.

Ryan Hanna is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a major in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. Ryan is a 3-year member of Arcadia’s Baseball team and has had various internship experiences. Following his sophomore year, he gained supervisor and managerial experience interning in operations for Homeplate Catering at TD Bank Ballpark. After his junior year, he gained sales experience as a Ticket Services representative for the Philadelphia Phillies. These experiences have helped him develop great communication and leadership skills that will continue to help him pursue a career in professional sports.

Jordan Washington is a senior at Arcadia University who studies pursuing a degree in Sport Management. Jordan has been an equipment manager for Arcadia’s Volleyball team in all 4 years of his time at Arcadia and has multiple internship experiences being a head coach for high school volleyball 3 years and training as an equipment manager at UPenn durings the summers during his time at Arcadia. These experiences have developed Jordan in multiple areas of leadership in sports, planning in sports, and management at a high level. Jordan has developed these skills because he desires to one day work in a field of sports where he is valued and can make a positive impact on any program that needs someone to make a difference.

Caroline Weirich is a senior at Arcadia University pursuing a major in Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration. Caroline is a 4-year member and 2-year captain of Arcadia’s Women’s Soccer team, Co-President of the Sport Management Club, Vice President of The Hidden Opponent (THO), Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Social Media Coordinator, student worker for the Sports Information Directors, and more. Caroline has had a variety of internship experiences throughout her college career. She started as a Seasonal Ticketing Intern with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Triple AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, where she was able to gain knowledge on many aspects of ticket sales and other front office departments. She has also interned at the University of Pennsylvania with their Men’s and Women’s Squash teams as a Social Media Coordinator. Caroline has now been working with the Philadelphia Phillies as a Ticket Services Representative since January of 2023 and plans to continue in this position through 2024 as she comes back to Arcadia for an extra semester of study and to play her fifth year of eligibility in soccer. All of these experiences have helped Caroline develop her leadership skills, hard work ethic, management skills, and more that will help her pursue her career aspirations of working in professional sports.

Brady Wied is a senior at Arcadia University from Bethlehem, PA, pursuing a double major in Sport Management and Business Administration. With academics, Brady was also a member of the Arcadia Men’s Lacrosse team for 3 years. Brady has interned for reLax Sports. reLax Sports is a recent startup lacrosse league in his hometown area, working with his former high school head lacrosse coach on it. While interning, Brady was able to gain knowledge on the ins and outs of sports business. He oversaw operations, event promotion, event management and ran the social media. Brady has also volunteered during his time to coaching youth lacrosse and working lacrosse tournaments for Victory. These experiences have given him a development of communication and management skills that will help him pursue his future endeavors in the sports world.
