Week 1, Term 4
Kia ora koutou whānau,
We have had a great start to term 4! Our Mihi Whakatau was a wonderful success as we welcomed our new families to Ararira Springs, thank you to all that came and joined us.
A big welcome to Whaea Anna (H3) and the new ākonga/whānau who started this term. We also welcome Matua Matt (who is teaching on Wednesdays in H3 and on Fridays in H4) and Whaea Sharon in H2 on Thursdays.
Sunhats
Please ensure your child brings a full brimmed navy blue NAMED hat to school everyday. No hat = no play. No caps please. This is part of our schools sunsmart policy. Please leave the hat in the side pocket of your child’s bag so that they can access this frequently. Some whānau choose to sew something little on the outside of the hat so it can be easily recognised. Apply sunscreen to your child before school, even on overcast days. There is sunscreen available for your child to reapply to themselves during the day. Please practice this at home, as we cannot apply sunscreen to individual children. We have over 100 children in the hapori and we are encouraging independence! Thank you for your help with this.

Health/Sexuality Education
During the first half of this term, we will be continuing to teach our health unit. A summary of what we teach can be found via this link.
“In the early years young people will develop listening skills, talk about their feelings and relationships, and look at their roles within the family. They will learn about contributing to safe environments, addressing bullying and accommodating differences. They will be able to name body parts, and identify differences between the genders”.
Please see your child’s akomanga teacher if you have any questions regarding this.

Let’s Get Baking
Last term, Whaea Tash’s inquiry group investigated how to make a selection of foods. We chose to do this instead of buying them in plastic packaging that isn't good for the environment.
We decided we could share some of the recipes that we tried so that other people could try them too. Here are some links to our recipes:
