Comprehension

Comprehension is the ability to understand and make meaning from what is read. It is the ultimate goal of reading.

Students who have strong comprehension:

• are able to read words automatically and efficiently

• are able to read fluently and accurately

• have a large expressive vocabulary (words students know well enough to use in speaking or writing)

• are able to understand what they read
