When you get your paper back:
Estimate your %
Calculate your %
Record your grade & % & mark on the graph
Read over your exam & my comments
You can use a text or your notes
in a DIFFERENT COLOUR see if you can
amend/improve your answers. Look especially where I have marked:
C = it may just need a term adding
R = your answer doesn’t match the question asked, re
read it & try again.
Once we have corrected the exam
look at your corrections, how many
marks did you gain? What is your new grade?
As we correct the exam try to work out why you lost marks & keep a tally.
K = lack of knowledge
R = misread the Q or didn’t use information given in the Q
S = not enough statements
only use this is you didn’t realise you hadn’t written enough, if you didn’t know anything more to write more statements that is K
C = answer unclear, lacks detail, lacks Science terminology
M = maths or graph error
A = you were unable to use your knowledge and apply it to a new situation
H = how science works skills
Count up your tally for each code:
Mostly K
you need to do more revision or use different revision methods,
check out the study advice at the start of your big pack & on the study skills
page of the website.
Mostly R
practise this strategy in class and when doing homework
Read the q & underline key words/phrases including the command words
Remember it might be necessary to go back and re
read the main question stem too
Reread the q and answer it
Mostly C
you should have mark scheme notes, these need to be repeatedly completed
under exam conditions until you can get 100%.
Repeat exam qs from the assessment pack during revision and mark them using the mark scheme, pay attention to the comments & ensure you know what terminology must be included and your expression is clear
Mostly S
When you practice exam qs for hwk in class complete your answers as bullet points. When you are marking them, look at whether you are giving enough information per bullet to be worth one mark.
Producing mark scheme notes will help you understand what is needed for one
mark. It is important to read the comments section of the mark scheme too.
Mostly M or H
see the list on the website for how to improve these skills
Mostly A
continued practice of exam qs will help this as will producing mark scheme notes. Look out for common phrases & clues in the question
eg mention of oxygen should make you think of respiration which should make you think of
eg
providing ATP for active transport.
