Our Seeds, Our Stories Nuestras Semillas, Nuestras Historias:
Hands on Learning in the Garden for Community, Culture, and Climate
Hands on Learning in the Garden for Community, Culture, and Climate
Our Seeds, Our Stories/Nuestras Semillas, Nuestras Historias is a new K-12 curriculum resource for school and community gardens of all kinds: public, private, home, and international. It integrates the entire plant life cycle (including saving and planting seeds across multiple years) in order to highlight growing food and fiber for the local community, culture, and climate. The resources include oral histories from people representing many indigenous and ethnic backgrounds, and students are encouraged to write their own stories. Activities are aligned with standards across the curriculum (NGSS, California English-Language Arts, California Math Framework, and California History-Social Science Framework) as well as age-appropriate electives.
This project is under development. Resources will be made available on this page as the they become available. Our initial materials are focused on upper elementary (3-5) and middle school (6-8) grade bands.
