Please complete the Pinning Ceremony Student Input Form to vote on the theme of the Pinning Ceremony.
On the day of the Pinning Ceremony, there is a Mandatory Student Rehearsal at 9 AM.

Nursing Pins

All nursing students are highly encouraged to purchase the SON-approved pins.
Pins can be purchased at the APU Campus Store. Either the gold or silver pin are acceptable for purchase.

Nursing Sash

The APU Campus Store currently does have the nursing sash in stock. Check their website for more details.

Felix Event Center (West Campus)

Address: 701 East Foothill Blvd, Azusa, CA 91702 - Google Maps.
Parking: A parking pass is not required on West Campus.

Guests

Guest Seating: Seating for the event is indoors with ADA accessibility. Seat availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Ticketing: At this time, there will be no ticketing for the Pinning Ceremony. All guests can freely attend the Pinning Ceremony without any prior registration.

45 Years of Nursing Excellence: Pinning Ceremony

The School of Nursing's (SON) Pinning Ceremony celebrates students that have completed the criteria necessary to transition from student to nurse. We include our Traditional UG, Upperdivsion BSN Transfer (LVN & 2+2), and RN to BSN students who are ready to graduate. We also include our Entry-Level Masters students who have completed the pre-licensure courses and before they move into their post-licensure requirements.

The ceremony includes both a pinning and a candle-lighting activity that illustrate our students' membership into the community of nurses worldwide. The act of pinning is more than just an APU School of Nursing tradition, it is an industry tradition that dates back to the 12th century Crimean War and Florence Nightingale. The tradition continues today through the following acts:

Act of Pinning: The nursing pin symbolizes an educated nurse who is prepared to serve society as a healthcare professional
Candle Lighting and Oath: The candle lighting commemorates Florence Nightingale and includes the recitation of the International Council of Nurses Pledge… a nurse’s sacred oath.
