Sophomore Platform/ Proficiency Exam

ABOUT THE EXAM

As part of the requirement of the Music Education/Pre-Teacher Certification degree program, music education students who have sophomore standing undergo a proficiency examination where essential skills are reviewed by the faculty.

These skills include:

(1) a solo performance on your primary applied instrument or voice

(2) a performance review of your coursework up to this point in the degree program

(3) an interview

Should a student fail to pass this exam, they have a one semester probation period where improvement must be demonstrated in the specific areas deemed necessary by the committee. If at the end of the probation semester satisfactory improvement is not met, the student is not permitted to continue as a music education major.
