On October 26-30, Alumni, students, friends, and family participated in a week of full exciting events during Azusa Pacific University's Virtual Homecoming Week. Events included: a fun virtual 5K, Worship Night, Alumni Academy for a learning experience with great topics presented by prestigious faculty members, and Art Night led by Professor Bill Catling in a step-by-step painting experience. Event concluded with a fun giveaway opportunities for those that participated in our events and social media campaign.
On December 16, 2019, Azusa Pacific University held an annual Year-End gathering of the APU Los Angeles Korean Alumni Chapter. The group official began around 1999 and has consistently gathered to support and celebrate their affinity for APU. The most recent gathering was held at the New Life Vision Church in Los Angeles and included approximately 110 alumni and family members. The program consisted of singing praise songs, prayers for family, APU, the United States and the Korean Peninsula.
On Sunday, December 8th, a group of alumni cheered on the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks for the Sunday Night National Football League game. Prior to kickoff, APU Alumni met former Rams player and APU Alumnus (2014), Jackie Slater. Mr. Slater discussed playing in the NFL, the value of his APU master’s degree, and how his faith has influenced his journey. After the game, alumni also connected with Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach and APU alumni (2003), Dave Canales who spoke about his professional career.
On November 21st, the APU Office of Alumni Engagement and APU University Advancement co-sponsored an APU Alumni San Diego/Orange County Networking Event at Rancho Santa Fe, California. Attendees enjoyed food, refreshments and received APU Alumni giveaways. A special thanks to our host, Steve Mejia '05, '07, and to speakers Dr. Eric Rodriguez '06, Anthony Garcia '05, and APU Football Head Coach, Victor Santa Cruz, '10.
October 24-26th was APU's Homecoming Weekend. Filled with many fun events, everyone came together to strengthen their connection through their faith in God and to see the great works that He’s doing. APU students, families, friends, faculty, staff and alumni rallied together to enjoy this memorable weekend.
Alumni from Pacific Bible College gathered on the APU campus on October 5, 2019 to reminisce, share personal updates, sing hymns, and enjoy lunch together. These women have faithfully gathered during the first weekend in October for over 20 years and have a deep love for APU and for God.
The Office of Alumni Engagement hosted a gathering for alumni at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. on October 3, 2019. Dr. Robert Mullins, professor in the School of Theology gave a keynote regarding his archeological findings, followed by a reception for alumni living in the Washington D.C. area. Over 25 alumni and friends gathered to connect with each other, meet President and Mrs. Ferguson, and hear about the future direction of APU.
On Saturday, August 24th we celebrated alumni legacy families continuing the APU legacy by inviting them to a breakfast reception during Welcome Weekend. Legacy families joined other families, heard a special welcome from our new president, Paul Ferguson, Ph.D., DABT, and participated in fun giveaways.
More than 160 alumni, family and friends cheered on the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), #1 in MLS standings, as they faced off against MLS Champions, Atlanta United on Friday, July 26th, with LAFC taking the win 4-3! Each event participant received an exclusive designed APU x LAFC scarf and seventy-five alumni & friends won a spot to be an American Flag presenter on the pitch during the National Anthem.
On May 20th, alumni gathered for the Los Angeles Networking Gathering at CBRE in Glendale. Thank you to the planning committee: Greg Nassir, Ryan Fridborg, Bill Coats, Jamen Wurm; and to our guest speaker, Victor Santa Cruz, APU Football Head Coach who provided encouraging and insightful words. Alumni enjoyed food from Portos and alumni merch giveaways with the grand prize, Apple BeatsX (donated by the APU Computer Store), going to Susan Austin, '05!
The Office of Alumni Engagement honored the Class of 1969 at their 50th Year Reunion on May 3rd and 4th, 2019. Sixty-one alumni and guests were celebrated by touring campus, sharing meals together, reminiscing and giving life updates, and being recognized at the Baccalaureate and Alumni Initiation and Graduation Ceremonies. Thank you to our campus partners that assisted with the event and celebrated with us!
March 30th was the 32nd annual Lū’au hosted by the APU student group, Pacific Islanders Organization (PIO). Honored guests were alumni and founders of the PIO organization, endearingly referred to as Uncle Kalani and Aunty Lei Badua. Kalani (Warren) Badua (1990) and Lei (Yvette) Badua (1996) founded PIO in 1987 to help build a community of students from Hawaii who felt far from home.
For more than 20 years, June and Cliff Hamlow have made an annual trek from Azusa, California, to Turlock, California—a journey of more than 300 miles—to host an alumni gathering of Azusa Pacific College graduates from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s.
This year, on March 30, the event was held at the Free Methodist Church in Ripon, California, with more than 20 attendees from the Northern California region. Alumni were able to share a meal and updates and stories about their lives. Everyone enjoyed connecting over memories from their college experience and also conveying their love of Christ.
On March 17th, APU alumni and friends enjoyed Dodgers baseball at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. The event included an exclusive tour of Dodger facilities, photos taken by the Dodger's official photographer, John SooHoo, meeting Dodger Manager Dave Roberts and praying with him, and enjoying the Dodger vs. Milwaukee Brewers game.
