APS Online 2023-24 Through EdOptions Academy
APS Online is no longer accepting requests for students in grades K-3. Elementary students will attend a daily homeroom at 8:15 AM. Students will work daily in the district's i-Ready reading and math program to support student academic growth and success. Elementary students will receive live (synchronous) remote instruction in reading, mathematics, social studies, and science using Edmentum’s content and teachers. Students will be required to attend scheduled remote live lessons Monday - Thursday.
Students will be offered the following electives:
PE
Art
Upon enrollment, students are assigned an Akron Public Schools mentor. The APS mentor will monitor student's progress and meet with students to provide social-emotional or academic support. APS mentors will work with the family to ensure student success.
APS Online Program Student Expectations:
Students and a parent or guardian will attend a mandatory orientation session, held remotely, with their assigned mentor the first day of school.
Students will attend scheduled live remote live lessons Monday - Thursday in math, reading, social studies, and science. Students will be marked absent if they don’t attend scheduled lessons following our typical APS attendance procedures and policies.
Students will meet with their assigned APS Online mentor daily for homeroom attendance.
Students will commit to remaining in APS Online for the full semester. If a student wants to change to in-person, they can submit a building transfer request at the end of each semester.
Students not demonstrating adequate academic progress may require additional supports:
Extra help sessions with EdOptions Academy teacher
Daily check-ins with APS Online mentor virtually and in-person
Support meetings with families
Individual student success plans
Family meetings to determine whether students should remain remote or return to in-person instruction at the end of the semester; additionally, there are procedures in place to address individual student and family extenuating circumstances via our APS Student Services Office
In some instances, students who are not demonstrating academic progress and/or fail to regularly engage in scheduled lessons may be recommended to an alternative education setting.
