Progress monitoring is the process of systematically collecting and evaluating data on problem behavior and/or replacement behaviors to inform programming decisions. Progress monitoring provides a basis for determining whether an intervention is or is not effective for individual students.
All progress monitoring tools should include the following:
A description of the behavior to be tracked that is objective (i.e., describe what the behavior LOOKS like and not the emotions one may attribute to the behavior)
A timestamp (the date and/or time that the data was recorded)
An outline of the parameters for when data should be collected (e.g., each time it occurs, in blocks of time, per day)
Digital platforms such as Google Forms and Google Sheets allow for progress monitoring tools to be accessible to multiple users with continuous access to monitor the data. Keep in mind that private student info should be protected (e.g., share forms with only relevant staff, use password protection, use only student initials). See progress monitoring templates for common interventions below.

Some teachers and staff may prefer to continue using paper forms for collecting data on a day-to-day basis. Templates for progress monitoring forms for common interventions can be found here. Ensure that there is a plan to have the forms turned in for review and analysis on a regular basis.
