Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to my 7th Grade Science class. I look forward to a great year working with all of you. I teach in an inquiry style of learning that encourages students to discover answers for themselves. Don’t worry if your student doesn’t immediately understand concepts. I want them to think for themselves and develop problem-solving skills.
To make this fun and successful for everybody please make sure your student has all the essential class items EVERY DAY (headphones, pencils, pens, loose leaf paper, folder, dry-erase markers, pencil sharpener, colored pencils, composition notebook and glue sticks). Please support your student and check their Google Classroom and interactive notebook regularly to make sure they are completing their assignments. Additionally there is a lot of vocabulary to learn this year, so encourage your student to work on their vocabulary homework assignments, or to contact their science buddy to help them.
A little about myself, I am from Britain and have a background in science, with a BSc. and PhD in molecular biology/virology. I formally worked in medical research, but moved to Atlanta 16 years ago with my family, where I discovered a joy for teaching. I love watching students have that "Aha" moment as they grasp a concept for the first time. I look forward to working with you and your students this year.
Thank you for your time,
Dr. Vicky Silcock
