A Message from our Academy AP: Dr. Caldwell - Crafting Our Next Chapter
Dear Seniors,
It's senior year! This marks the beginning of an exciting chapter, full of possibilities as you prepare for graduation and your future. As leaders of Carver STEAM Academy, you set the standard for underclassmen. I encourage you to lead by example and continue to represent our school with excellence. Your senior year will be eventful and a time to achieve all your high school accomplishments.
You'll get important updates all year about senior events, deadlines, graduation requirements, and what's expected of you. This year, our school has three big goals, which we call "70-85-90":
70% of you will score "Developing & Above" on your GA Milestones EOC Assessments. This means we're focused on making sure you really master the important topics in your classes and demonstrate your learning.
We're aiming for an 85% four-year graduation rate. Our goal is to have a much higher percentage of you complete high school on time, and for you to become Life Ready!
Our target is 90% CCRPI Attendance. This goal highlights how important it is for you to be in class consistently, as it directly impacts your learning.
To help you have a successful senior year, here are a few key tips:
Attendance: Being present in school is crucial for your academic success and prepares you for life. Missing just 10% of the school year—that's about 18 days—can significantly impact your learning, whether those absences are excused or not. Try to avoid unnecessary absences; even missing a day here and there adds up quickly.
Time Management: Your senior year will likely include more involved assignments and projects with longer deadlines. Make sure to plan ahead and avoid putting things off until the last minute so you can complete them on time.
Communicate: If you ever find yourself struggling or falling behind, please talk to your teachers, staff, counselor, or an administrator. We are here to help you find solutions and offer support before it's too late.
Balance Social and Academic Life: While friendships are important, always prioritize your schoolwork and getting enough rest. It's perfectly fine to say no to social plans when you need to study, finish assignments, or focus on your post-high school plans.
Graduation Requirements: To graduate, you need to earn a minimum of 24 credits, pass all required state courses, and complete 75 hours of community service.
This year's theme, "LAUNCHING our success story," means we'll face challenges with resilience and see them as chances to grow. Our shared commitment will create a space where excellence thrives and dreams are launched!
I'm excited to share this journey with you and am here to support each of you. Congratulations on being one step closer to graduation!
Sincerely,
Dr. Caldwell
