While Google is the search engine we're most accustomed to using, there are other search engines that allow users to search for academic resources and scholarly literature such as abstracts, full-text articles, theses, books, and more from across many disciplines without much to do much vetting.
Google Scholar - Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts, and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities, and other websites.

SweetSearchhas been the best place for students - and anyone else - to begin their research since 2009. It leverages Google to search only a fully vetted "whitelist" of websites. The original index was created by 50+ librarians, educators, and researchers who collectively invested over 100,000 hours in finding the best resources. Note: Since SS uses Google, the first few results currently may still be "ads." Make sure you skip those. Click the menu bars on the landing page to access SweetSearch2Day which has contemporary and historical resources you will find interesting and useful, web guides, and "How-tos" for research.
iSEEKEducation is a targeted search engine for students, teachers, administrators, and caregivers. You can stay within iSeek or extend your search to the web with the most questionable results omitted.
RefSeekis a web search engine for students and researchers that aims to make academic information easily accessible to everyone. It searches more than one billion documents, including web pages, books, encyclopedias, journals, and newspapers.
JURN is a unique search tool that helps you find free academic articles and books. JURN harnesses all the power of Google but focuses your search through a hand-crafted and curated index.
